Our History

Embree Elevator’s routes can be traced back as far as the early 20th century, where a 1906 Lynn phone directory lists W.F. Embree & Co. as “Machinists and Millwrights Manufacturers of Double and Single Screw Elevators”. Operations are known to have ceased briefly during the great depression from 1931-1933. Subsequently, in 1933, a new partnership was formed known as Embree & White. Throughout the early and mid-20th century, elevator systems were manufactured and installed from the Farrar Street facility occupied by the company. During this time, the company was heavily involved in elevator services and millwrights work supporting the movement and alignment of large manufacturing machines. By the late 50’s, the company had ceased manufacturing and was engaged primarily in millwright and large freight elevator repairs.

In 1973, ownership changed when current President/CEO James F Comley purchased the company, and a new direction for the company began. At that time, the company was formally incorporated as Embree & White, Inc. Throughout the 70’s and 80’s, its focus was on servicing mainly large freight elevator systems with the elimination of its millwright operations. In the late 80’s and 90’s, the company began a transition toward diversification into passenger elevator services. In the mid-90s, thru the modernization of its business systems, the company began to see steady growth.

In 1996 the company adopted the operating name Embree Elevator to be more descriptive of its primary focus; the service, repair, testing and modernization/upgrade of all types of elevator systems. In the past 27 years, the company has enjoyed continued growth, including the acquisition of the accounts and inventory of American, Metropolitan and Burlington Elevator Companies.
